Hello  StacheStrong  Fam!
It’s amazing to see the continual growth of our organization as we aim to flip the script on this disease! We have now raised over $3,500,000 and funded 35+ research grants to date. I say it time and time again, but I remember when we raised our first $10,000 and the excitement that I shared with my brother for what we were doing. We have become a leading organization in this space, which is only possible because of YOUR support.

We can’t do this alone, so if you’re looking for a way to get involved, volunteer, and help drive our mission forward, PLEASE reach out!!!

Research  Funded
We’ll update you on all the awesome events and happenings below, but what matters most is where this money is going and the good that it is doing in advancing brain cancer research. We funded 11 grants in 2023 to highly rated and promising areas, including the following:

Glioma Connectome Project (GCP): We added Lenox Hill to this study, which was originally reported by Yahoo News. This project aims to utilize information about how the brain is organized (connectomics) and how it relates to the patient’s experience (neuropsych tests, documented deficits, etc.) from before AND after glioma surgery. Machine learning techniques aid in the study about how the brain lives with a tumor and reorganizes during treatment, as well as recurrence, to increase fundamental understanding of the brain and how to provide better care for brain tumor patients. We expect more outcomes in 2024 from the other involved institutions, including Henry Ford, Nebraska, Northwestern, UMiami, University of Texas – Houston, UPenn and UPMC.

Society of Neurological Surgeons (SNS) Training Program: Formal mentored research program for 2 years for neurosurgery residents. Goal is to improve human health by providing participants with the skills, mentorship, education and experience needed.

UCLA: Testing two clinical drugs to determine if they promote GBM cell death in preclinical GBM models (David Nathanson, PhD and Timothy Cloughesy, MD) funded in partnership with NBTS

Brigham & Women’s and UCSF: Clinical study to test the safety and feasibility of implanting a microdevice into GBM patients’ tumors to deliver microdoses of up to 20 different drugs into different areas in the tumor. The tumor and device would then be removed to assess the tumor biomarkers and response to the drugs. The team is hoping to identify potential combination therapies and mechanisms of resistance (Oliver Jones, PhD and Shawn Hervey-Jumper, MD) funded in partnership with ABTA

Duke: Glioblastoma Biobank Project, including a survey portal for GBM patients to collect medical history and demographics, while also including blood and serum collection for genetic analysis (Kyle Walsh, PhD and Quinn Ostrom, PhD) funded in partnership with the Glioblastoma Research Organization

UC San Diego: Postdoctoral fellowship focused on targeting bromodomain containing two protein to inhibit mesenchymal transition in recurrent glioblastoma (Raghavendra Vadla, PhD) funded in partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research

UCLA: Investigation of anti-angiogenic treatment resistance in glioblastoma (Isaac Yang, MD) funded in partnership with the Musella Foundation

University of Illinois: Targeting of glioblastoma stem cells by miRNA (Tohru Yamada, PhD) funded in partnership with the Musella Foundation

Harvard: Computer modeling of tumor treating fields (Monika Haack, PhD) funded in partnership with the Musella Foundation

Columbia: Test blocking of the CD47/SIRPa pathway during radiation (Robyn Gartrell, MD) funded in partnership with the Musella Foundation

University of Chicago: Creation of a peptide vaccine targeting multiple cytomegalovirus antigens in malignant brain tumors (Katherine Thompson, MD) funded in partnership with the Musella Foundation

These are tangible results to remind you why every dollar matters. It’s why your support is crucial. We can’t promise what tomorrow holds, but we can promise that StacheStrong will continue to push the envelope and fund cutting edge research in the hope of a world without brain cancer.
#BrewStacheStrong
The #BrewStacheStrong collaboration is bringing together breweries and communities across the country in support of a disease that impacts far too many people. Just like every ‘Stache tells a story, every beer tells a story. We #BrewStacheStrong to promote and benefit brain cancer research with breweries across the country.

We have now partnered with over 350 breweries in 45+ states, which is humbling and beyond promising. We’ve already started our outreach for 2024’s #BrewStacheStrong campaign so if you would like to help or have a friend/contact in the beer/restaurant world, please connect us via email. This campaign has the ability to make a profound impact for years to come!

TCS  New  York  City  Marathon
Where to begin?! The StacheStrong Marathon team continues to grow and become a force every November. Our 29 runners came together and raised over $165,000 for brain cancer research and created a new community of engaged supporters along the way. They inspired so many across the country and left a lasting impact during each stride of their 26.2 miles. There’s no two ways about it – GBM sucks – but the family and togetherness we have created with thousands of people have us in awe. Thank you to each of our team members and welcome to the family and a special thanks to our sole sponsor, Novocure!

If interested in applying to be on our 2024 NYC Marathon team, please send us an email and we will add you to the list to receive our marathon application form in January 2024! We applied for 50 bibs so we are hoping to have an even bigger team!!!
#GrowStacheStrong
Our growers have now raised close to $100,000 over the years during November. They made GBM awareness the reason behind growing out their mustache and made a major impact. We’ve learned first-hand how difficult it is for a lot of people to talk about brain cancer and this is a big help. A special thanks to Dave Percy for leading the way this year!
Employer Matching
Did you know that you can DOUBLE the amount you’ve raised/donated to StacheStrong just by leveraging your employer’s donation program? SO many of our supporters take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and it results in amplifying the impact of each individual donation/event registration. Reach out to your company to do so for StacheStrong and if your company doesn’t match yet, use this as an opportunity to get them involved and support StacheStrong. Let’s work together to connect major dollars to brain cancer research!
